Nintendo fans may soon have another chance to revisit the Hoenn region. Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald ports are reportedly planned for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, according to a new leak.
The rumor gained attention after gaming insider Shpeshal Nick claimed the three games could arrive in late September or October. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have not confirmed the releases.
Datamine Already Hinted at the Pokemon Ports
The latest rumor follows evidence discovered earlier this year. Dataminers found references to Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald inside the Switch versions of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
Those games use Nintendo’s Sloop Game Boy Advance emulator. Its code reportedly recognizes ROM identifiers associated with all three Hoenn games. The discovery suggested Nintendo had already prepared technical support for the titles.
However, the datamine did not confirm an upcoming release. It only showed that the emulator could recognize the relevant games.
Switch Could Get Another Pokémon Classic
The timing of the latest leak has made the rumor more interesting. FireRed and LeafGreen arrived on Switch in February 2026, giving Nintendo a ready-made foundation for additional GBA Pokémon releases.
Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald originally launched on the Game Boy Advance between 2002 and 2005. The games introduced the Hoenn region, 135 new Pokémon, and several mechanics that became staples of the series.
A modern port could also give players easier access to Pokémon that remain difficult to obtain through current games. Fans have already started discussing potential connectivity with Pokémon Home and online features.
The rumored September or October window remains unverified. No official announcement has arrived from Nintendo or The Pokémon Company.
Still, the combination of datamined code and a recent insider claim has given the rumor more weight than a typical fan speculation. If the reports prove accurate, Switch and Switch 2 owners could soon return to one of Pokémon’s most beloved generations.
