Square Enix has officially confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV Online will launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, bringing the acclaimed MMORPG to Nintendo’s latest console for the first time.
The upcoming release expands the game’s platform availability and gives Switch 2 owners access to the full online experience, including cross-platform play with existing players on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
To mark the launch, Square Enix is offering one month of free access to new Switch 2 players. After the complimentary period ends, users will need an active monthly subscription to continue playing. Existing Final Fantasy XIV players who add the Nintendo Switch 2 version to their account will also be able to take advantage of discounted subscription pricing.
The Nintendo Switch 2 edition was first revealed during a recent Final Fantasy XIV presentation, where Square Enix also showcased the game’s upcoming Evercold expansion. Like other versions of the MMORPG, the Switch 2 release requires a persistent internet connection to play. However, players will not need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to access the game.
Originally relaunched in 2013 as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the MMORPG has become one of the most successful games in the genre through regular expansions and continuous post-launch support. Its arrival on Nintendo Switch 2 introduces the title to a new audience while allowing existing players to continue their adventures through full cross-platform compatibility.
Final Fantasy XIV will be available for Nintendo Switch 2 starting August 4, further expanding the game’s reach across modern gaming platforms.
